Push Notifications Survey

Up until now, Radioservers has integrated One Signal push notifications because of their free basic plan which was suitable for most customers. However, One Signal has recently announced a change in pricing:

The OneSignal Free plan is changing. We’re bringing deeper lifecycle messaging to our entry plan, with new AI and personalization features, and removal of paid-plan gates for many existing capabilities. Customers on the Growth plan also get access to use more Journeys and Data Tags at no additional charge.
As part of this change, we’re introducing a limit to the Free plan’s allowed MAU that affects mobile push and in-app messaging. On the Free plan, you must have fewer than 1,000 monthly active users (MAU) to send mobile push and in-app messages. These changes take effect for new customers on September 1, 2026 and existing customers on October 1, 2026.

First, the honest truth so you have all of the information you need: If you have less than 1,000 active users and don’t see your app exceeding that number, you don’t need to do anything. If you do have near or more than 1,000, you’ll have to either upgrade to a paid plan or switch to another platform such as pushwoosh. You can estimate your OneSignal cost by clicking here. For example, 2000 monthly users would cost about $43 per month. Pushwoosh, as an example comes in at around $26 per month. However, if you switch to another platform, you’ll need to upgrade your apps, which will carry a one-time cost of $398. So you are weighing paying the new higher monthly charge to OneSignal vs switching with a one-time upgrade cost and then paying the smaller monthly charge by another provider. There are others besides pushwoosh by the way- you can google the various providers.

There is also a third option. Radioservers could build a platform you can use (more basic than One Signal but gets the job done) and you still pay for the app update but your monthly cost would be much lower. We’ve already done the work and tested it, so we know can deliver it, but we need to know if anyone wants it. That’s where this survey comes in. Your answers will help us determine how to move forward. Keep in mind, the prices with this don’t exactly make it a big profitable platform, so there is no harm in saying you do not want it- we won’t be offended! Just write that in the comment box.
